wow great work man...props to anyone who does the DIY swap!

:thumbs up:
HOLY CRAP!!!!! nice work bro.
FYI. About the liftime tranny fluid. BMW are no longer sticking to their lifetime ATF claim. They now recommend ATF to be changed at 100k miles. At least that is what my SA told me. As I got ATF changed under the extended maintenance plan just before my car hit 100k miles.
Great work truly enjoy your informative posts.

yeah man i'm gonna have to agree with you with the oil change thing, If you remember one of the other threads where someone actually took oil to a lab and got it read and everything, BMW's oil change intervals are not that bad. Oil actually has to build up a layer of protection and that takes time and use. I will definitely recommend a fluid drain and fill along with a tranny fluid filter up around 100k.

Great stuff you have here man. I was trying to put it all together in my head. but it seems like the only way for me to know how to do this or even start, is to get a bad tranny and take it apart and try and put it back together.

Thanks neil for this thread. Great photos too btw.
Great post!

I disagree with you though on your fluid change philosophy. I think that people should drop the tranny pan at 30k on an auto simply for the task of changing the filter. I'd recommend doing a full flush of fluid only every 90k or so though since a drain and fill should be fine for 90k.
