I am the happy owner of a brand new 2003 325i, but I have one question that I hope someone can answer.

When shifting the automatic transmission from reverse to drive, there is a delay of perhaps one second for the tranny to make the transition. It is not immediate as is the case in many older (and simpler) cars. I would be like to know if any other E46 owners have the same experience so I can know if it is normal.

Thanks

Normal. Seems to be really bad from a cold start. When your engine warms up, it should switch a little faster. At least that's my experience.
