The listed interval for spark plug replacement on our E46 per BMW is every 100k miles.

I'd do it before then for sure. I actually did mine around 45k miles or so and discovered I had a slight valve cover gasket leak.

Pssst!!! Yeah right! BMW will do the least possible preventative maintenance while you're in the warranty period. 100K is WAY too much. I would recommend changing them at 60K minimum (depends on what kind of driving you do, really). OR you can always pull one (takes about 5 minutes to get to it) and check them out yourself for fouling,etc.

If you are going to check/change the plugs yourself, don't forget to find out the correct torque spec, and whether or not you need to put anti-seize on them (I haven't done mine yet). You don't want to strip or get a plug stuck in your head...
