what's the difference between a cold air intake and a ram air intake, or a short ram ? please tell me the difference cuz i was looking into an intake for my m3. Furthermore can anyone make a recommendation for a 2001 m3 with an active auto exhaust. Which intake would sound the best and which one would net the most power?

Cold Air Intake (CAI): Any intake that gets its air from outside the engine compartment, cold air = dense air = more power

Short Ram: Maybe they are referrring to the CAI's that aren't really CAI's? Open cone filters that get their air from the engine compartment, with a heat shield it is still warmer air than a real CAI

Ram Air: Any intake that uses the forward motion of the car to "force" air into the intake
