seems a common prob to be broken from sticking to the door , i see the molding on real , but i don't see the clips, do they come glued to it? or are you better off doing the double sided tape?

The round part facing you in this picture inserts into the body leaving only the H piece to snap into the corresponding U shaped piece on the trim. They were originally white. I have seen some degrade very badly after the trim falls off.

must be a sedan thing

It is nearly every sedan of a certain age. I have done this repair to every E46 sedan I have owned.

Either too much force pulling the clips off over time, or the glue isn't good enough to last.

I went to the dealer, with the realoem page printed out, and the parts guy worked, fussed, and walked away for an hour. And, he is no spring chicken, this parts guy has been at his desk for over 20 years.

He ended up throwing a bunch of clips into a ziplock, charging me ten bucks, and saying ***8220;hope you get it***8221;.

On my car, that boomerang thing is in the trunk because its all bent out of shape and all the clips and remnants of clips are gone. It doesnt really bother me though, my car isn***8217;t showy but I do understand your frustration. I tried to sort this thing out and then gave up.

i won't give up , i may make my own blocks , a lego would be perfect lol

epoxy on the car, double sided tape on trim piece

it breaks because i noticed the rubber sticks to it if the door is closed any length of time , open the door, eventually, busted
Might be better to epoxy on trim piece and double sided tape to car. A 3D printer would be nice to fab up something like this.

Fwiw, I replaced that whole trim piece (#13) new from the dealer a couple years ago and after not that long the boomerang piece started making noise and moving again when opening/closing that door (right rear). No where near as loud as the original piece that fell off, but eventually it too will fail.

Standing by eagerly. I have the boomerang (sedan) but no glued clips nor clips on the car. Bought body-side clips from the dealer and used silicone adhesive to attach the boomerang. This proved only temporary.

Does appears an aluminum piece (anodized or painted black) should connect the front of the boomerang to rest of the rain channel. This may be key as other attachment points are far to the back. And in fact my initial repair was pulled out and back (though fortunately still attached). Looking for suitable aluminum to fashion the missing connector but nothing to date. Post back with thoughts, findings, and progress.

P.S. If anyone knows of DFW salvage yard with e46's, please PM. I have yet to find even one car.
