That's impressive that it still holds.

I noticed fanatics mentioning 3M products before for blacking out the trim, but I'll take a chance w/ bmwshadowline.com tape.

 

Same as the above mentioned?

 

I personally didn't like the shadowline vinyl. I think it was too thin, difficult to install, and expensive.

I liked using the trimbrite vinyl

I got it for $6 at pepboys. Thicker and easier to install. It might not be wide enough for the corners. But at least it works for the thin pieces of trim and you can save some money.

 

All you need is what I mentioned in the thread. You do not need a heatgun. A heatgun will just melt the thin vinyl. It was my fist time intalling vinyl and I had no problems. Just take your time.....

 

My first time ever working with vinyl was my trim as well (used the bmw shadowline) and it still looks like new a little over 1 year later! It's easy to install just be patient:thumbsup:

 

I'm guessing one only needs the one roll of 3"x30 for the coupes with that arch in the rear?
Any pros or cons between the Gloss Black and the Matte Black on cars that anyone came across or can think of?

 

I went with a wider tape. Personally the wider the better for the rear arc on the coupes. I think I went with the next biggest size from bmwshadowline. I have a red coupe and went with the matte black. I like it and i think it looks sick.

Having said that as far as the install is be patient, a second pair of hands helps. Mine came out great for the bottom pieces but the rear arcs got some small flaws if you get real close. Vinyl has held up in all kinds of weather over the last year no problems. 1 roll with some failed attempts was enough for my coupe.

To conserve vinyl you can get the 3" wide strip into two 1.5 inch strips for some of the length to do the bottom pieces.
YOU WILL NEED all the width you can get for the rear arc tho

 

$7 alternative... used this stuff for years.....been on my a6 for over 4 yrs and on my vert for about 2....still perfect...(20 ft per roll) easy to apply...
