Scan Tools vs laptop software

For daily maintenance you want either a dedicated/stand alone OBDII tool or an OBDII smart phone App and interface. You will ALMOST always have your smart phone with you and you can leave the OBDII interface in the car. Also the smart phone Apps are very powerful and can log/record the full OBDII stream for further data analysis which many software packages cannot do.
I agree with jfoj on the above statement. There is another fanatic from my area that swears by the TORQUE app. He plugged the unit into my car and it was very accurate with the faults.

It has reset, performance and other functions. There is a free trial version and a paid version for $5. You can't really do anything with the app until you have the reader I think. You can get that piece from Amazon or ebay. Just look for the ones that are Torque compatible. They are pretty cheap.

I have been lazy and distracted with things in my life. I actually should have ordered this a long time ago.

Thanks to this topic coming up again, I will get this while it is fresh in my mind. :)
