Hey I am new here, just got a 2001 325ci and love it. It's a 5 speed, and after driving it for a few week I started to notice something odd. When I press on the gas hard or when I am going up a hill the rpm's go way up first then back down. I talked to someone and they said it might be a problem with the clutch. Seems weird that the clutch would already be messed up considering there are only 24K miles on it. Please help.

dude that happens to me. very noticeable too. It happened in my E36 but a bit more drastically. Basically I will be going slightly uphill or even flat and be in 3rd and just press the gas moderately or hard...if it doesnt kick down into second gear and stays in the mid range rpms in 3rd, it goes up and drops like a noticeable amount of rpms and then picks back up again as if nothing was going wrong. It dropped even worse in my old car. I dont know what the hell is wrong with it.

It happened in my 2001 6 speed M3 but it was the MPH part that did it. Only happened like 5 times

I read a service bulletin for e46's - there's software that may need to be reset - engine 'hangs' after the clutch is depressed. My '00 323i seems to have that problem occasionally.
Now the people at the shop tell me that they think it is a problem with the clutch but the won't know before they take it apart. And they won't know if it is convered under warrenty until they take it apart. What the @$%&. So basically I am at their mercy. So far I am not very impressed with the BMW service.
