Hi Guys,

Is this normal. During cold days, I noticed that the RPM revs higher than normal even after 10 minutes of driving. The RPM stays close at 1000. By the way, I have a 2003 325i

Just want to know if this is normal for BMW during cold days?

Thanks,

Uhm my is nowhere near 1000 after like the first min of starting the car. It idles at about 600 - 700 RPM. I have a 5sp, don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I have a 2003 325i 5 spd. My idle is around 600-700 AFTER warming up/driving for a few minutes. My idle DOES go up to around 800-900 if I turn the heat up to 78 or above. I don't know why it does this but it does.
I've NEVER ever seen this happen in any other car I've driven or owned.
It's very strange.
Also, my idle is erratic as it hunts at times between 500-900 rpm.
Something is odd with the current 325's. It seems more and more people are reporting odd idle and engine speed issues.

Go to your dealer and make a report. The more that is reported about a problem the sooner it will have a fix.

my 2001 325i step can idle very high upon startup. its not uncommon on a cold morning (approx 58 deg.) for my engine to idle as high as 1100 rpms but that only lasts a couple minutes. Generally my car idles a lot lower and revs a lot slower when its hot or my car has been driven for a long time.

If I turn on a few things immediately it does around 1000 for about 5 mintues. Mostly 750 for me all the time.
