Does anyone know where I can find a reasonable priced GT1?

<----- I am looking for everything shown in this picture

I would like to have it for the following reasons:

1: Activate Alarm
2: Enable One Touch Rear Vent Close
3: DRL Delete
4: All Windows Close from Key Fob
5: Diagnosing Car Problems
6: Read & Clear Fault Codes

I have a friend that owns one, but I rather do it myself then paying anyone for a simple job.

I'm sure it pays for itself seeing how much I would save from not having to pay anyone else.

I do understand that I need software as well, but the first step would be getting the GT1.

Quick Question: the GT1 is 20-pin and is compatible with all E46 Models 99-06, correct?

Any and all help is appreciated

Thanks in advance.

You don't need to buy a GT1 just for that. Go to the dealer and pay $150 and have them program it for you and call it a day.

Or buy carsoft.

A REAL GT1 will cost $10,000+.....

INPA/EDIABAS cables are ~$32, all the software is online and you can code (NCS expert) and diagnose/reset (INPA)

again, check BF.c diagnostic software forum

 The OP is not going to program his car everyday. He can take it to dealer/indy for that. He can diagnose issues on his own with car soft.
True, but I rather buy the needed cable so I can do it for myself and friends.

Also the dealer won't program my windows to go up from the key fob.

And I want this so I can diagnose my car everytime an issue comes up.

In summary, the dealer is not an option.

Then pay $10,000 + for a legit GT1

Or buy a vagcom cable from ebay and modify it to make it work with your easy dis/ gt1/ inpa / ediabas set up...

Wow, so you can do everything I listed with the right software and this cable?

Thanks, you saved me hundreds.

Anyone else can vouch for this? Gotta make sure.

You don't need a SERIAL to USB converter. Just buy the vag com cable from china and it will work fine.

Can you link us to a coding diy using these cables ? What software we will need etc ? I want the remote window up and one touch close vents coding, but always thought i needed the GT1.
There is a DIY on bimmerforums. Go search for it.

Coding is done through NCS not GT1.
GT1 is for diagnosing issues. But its pretty much useless IMO.

Good luck.

you could use GT1, there is a program included in the INPA package that basically emulates that yellow box using the VAGCOM ebay cable on your PC. Setting up a virtual machine with the right IP settings etc. can be annoying though and frankly not worth the effort since the GT1 interface is basically a less powerful INPA+NCSExpert but just dumbed down so that the average non computer literate technician can use it on a touch screen without getting confused.

The interface commonly referred to as GT1 is DIS which is a Unix base diagnostic and coding tool used by the BMW dealerships. The GT1 is the head unit that plugs the car into the tablet PC with DIS loaded on it. DIS was in use between 1997 and 2007, so this is what was used by the dealership when they read modules and recoded our cars.

There is a version of DIS called easyDIS v44 that was built by bmwecu.org. It's a fully functional unix version of DIS but intended to be loaded on a VMware Workstation as a client operating enviornment operation on your windows PC. Many OBDII head units operate with it, and one of the most common and easily obtained unics ist he VAG-COM, KKL 409.1 USB unit. As stated before, make a couple of solder joints and your good to go for $15 shipped.

I loaded NCS Expert and work with it, INPA, and easyDIS v44. It all works!!! This is the way to go, IMHO.

I'd personally get the USB one, most new laptops don't have serial ports anymore.
