If you don't care much about the auto dimming just disassemble and clean out the "ink" inside. That's what I did. Came out perfect

 

I know this is a long shot but how do you disassemble and clean? If anyone can chime in with info, I’d truly appreciate it.

 

If you want the dimming, but don't want to pay big bucks for a whole new unit, you can send it off to radarmirror. Do a search on the forum, you'll find them. They can replace just the glass and make the dimming work again.

 

I sent mine to radarmirror quick turn around lifetime warranty and was onlyour like $100

 

Question: How do you take off the rear view mirror? Not that mine has a problem, but I think I want to replace it with an oval one.

 

On an M3/Coupe, you pop off the plastic housing halves that's on the mirror then twist at an angle and it should disconnect.

 

I'm going to bring this thread back from the dead as I've read up on this:

You need a mirror from another BMW convertible, as the receiver for the key buttons is inside the E46 convertible's rearview mirror.
My questions is: Is the E93 mirror plug and play into our E46 convertibles?

I bought a replacement glass for the oval M mirror, but there's some other problem with the dimming.

you can swap the internals with any e46 Vert one, no matter if M3 oval or standard one, electronics would fit in any case with minor works.
if you want to change shape, you can use e9x series one as well or Z4s (but i dont' remember if there are any diffrences onto the electronics)
for the leaky issue, i've used a cheap chinese mirror that despite the really low price is holding tight since 2018 (aprox 60$)

I have an '01 M3 convertible and looking to replace the original oval rear view mirror (with autodimmer, rain sensing wipers, built in alarm indicator, but no homelink and no SOS feature) as it has started leaking giving that "lava effect" in it. As far as I know it has some type of alarm chip in it I've read somewhere that the coupes wouldn't have in their rear view mirrors.

What are my options? I prefer to replace it as a whole.

Would a rear view mirror with any features built in off any year / model convertible E46, any year / model E60, any Z4 coupe or convertible work?

 

I just got my mirror back from radar mirror and it works and took 10 days from I mailed it to get it back. Great work and no sign of damage. I hooked it up and now it works. I wish I did this sooner.

 

Is the the electronics from the e93 plug and play with the E46? I just purchased a E46 verticle & it has an after market rear view mirror. Of course my remote functions on the key don't work. Looking to either install a factory E46 verticle rear view mirror or upgrade to the e93 rear view mirror but do not want to upgrade if it is not plug and play.
