Do our cars come with rear side air bags pre-installed and all we have to do is get the dealer to activate them, or is it a more complicated ordeal? Also, if all we have to do is get them activated by the dealer, how much does this cost? :dunno:

P.S. I have seen this when building some 3er a while back, don't remember which one, and don't see it as a 325i option anymore. I know this is in the manual with an asterisk next to it indicating *optional.* Someone with knowledge on the subject please help.

The rear airbag is an option and if you don't pay for it there won't be an airbag there. If you do order the rear airbag, they come shipped from the factory in the de-activated mode. That is the default due to the safety risk to children. Your dealer must activate the airbags, at your request, in order for them to be functional.

I know this because I recently got a new bimmer and I ordered the airbags.

I installed passive rear airbags in my touring. 300 foot long rolls of 24" wide 5/16" bubble wrap works great.
