i want to tap into the output lines from the oem head unit so i can have an auxilary jack which i can use for a portable player, would this scenario be possible? in other words, if i use a player, instead of listening thru headphones i want to hear it thru the cars stereo system,

i don't think you can send two signals like that...i don't think it'll work. you could experiment by splicing the input wires at the harness though, a fairly harmless shot in the dark..

One word: BMWPILA

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-VbhFMOklnz6/ProdView.asp?a=&s=0&g=42300&id=detailed_info&i=541BMWPILA

Its meant to use diff. CD changers w/ the stock headunit, but as a bonus, comes w/ an AUX input.

Try searching on BMWPILA and AUX for more info.
