Hello guys,

Can someone explain to me the difference between these 2 turbos?

I have E46 316i with M43B19 engine.

One cost 2000 euros and the second 3500 euros

Can someone explain to me like a 5 year old because I am a noob about all mechanical and tunning-related stuff but like to have a faster car.

If I am to proceed to buy the expensive turbo option "GT3076r GARRETT (BALL BEARING, T3 FLANGE, 525HP) (T2 AVAILABLE)" what difference is going to make that 2000 euros "T3T4 T04E turbocharger (Journal bearing, T3 flange, 450hp)" one won't?

Also, what manifold type "For a low mount turbo (Not suitable for RHD cars) or (Turbo top mount)

I want my car to be daily so it's not going on track but it will be daily driver.

Hope you can share your wisdom with me, thanks for reading it, appreciate all responds!

Well, the ball bearing turbo is, in theory, the more modern one, with lower internal friction.

In the 'turbo' universe, there are a bewildering number of options, an incredible amount of bullshit,
and containers and containers full of low- quality products. So it's truly a jungle.

So, possibly, the more expensive kit actually has a Garrett or other name- brand, guaranteed, quality
turbocharger while the other has a 3rd party older- design copy.
The T3 and T4 turbos are antiques at this point- they still work, but there are far more modern designs available.
The T3/T4 designation means that the compressor side of one's being used with the turbine side of the other. It's... again, old.
Currently still in production, but by no means state of any art.
Since neither a T3 nor a T4 ever came with a ball bearing originally, that's what makes me think the more expensive
one may be a more modern design.

Turbocharging is about 25% about the thing itself. It's then 75% plumbing, and 100% fuel system.
Because you can get the mechanical parts 100% right, but if the tuning's only 90% correct and you
fall into that 10% hole just the wrong way, you have 0% left under the hood. It can be rather unforgiving.

If this is a car you need to use daily, and there isn't a tax implication, find a 3 liter motor, and do that.
It'll cost less, be more reliable, and make about as much power with about as much weight as a
mild turbo on a 1.8. And we'll be able to help you when something goes a bit squiffy.

If you go turbo, you're really setting down a long path of automotive fun- but kind of on your
own, as every system's pretty much unique on cars that never had turbos originally.

whut I got,
t

China choo choo vs quality turbocharger. Go with China because an old bmw 4-cylinder can’t take enough power to even stress a China turbo.
Also, what manifold type "For a low mount turbo (Not suitable for RHD cars) or (Turbo top mount)
Low mount has turbo mount under exhaust manifold which presents clearance issues for steering columns on rhd vehicles. Too mount set ups position the turbo on top of the exhaust manifold. Go top mount.
Two more things: one, the turbo kit pictured above is for an m50/m52 6-cylinder motor, not a 4-cylinder motor. Doesn’t make me have much faith in this company to send you the right parts, let alone parts of half decent quality. Finally, them m40/m43 motors don’t have very strong internals. I cannot imagine one of them lasting very long when boosted. As suggested above, swapping in a bigger motor is the better long term decision.

Thank you, guys, for your response! I highly appreciate it. In that case I might then put S54 engine. I am currently in process of visually converting E46 sedan to M3 look. Would you say that S54 engine is better then M54B30 ? I heard that M54 engine is good and perfect for tunning but S54 engine can be expensive If I decide to put turbo or play with it. If you had a budget would you go with S54B32 or M54B30 engine?

Thanks once again guys! :)
