How about a 'remote exhaust cutout', which bypasses muffler with a flick of a switch from the cabin? I wouldn't mess with the catalytic converter (in CA at least) due to tight emission tests (smog checks).

Idea behind cutout:

count me in if there is a legit one made.......
3 more months and it would of been a four year bump!! :yikes:
sorry to bump this thread but i was wondering something... how would the computer react to such a sudden loss of back pressure in the system, would it throw a CEL? damn i really want to do this but i need to get my car onto a lift first to find a possible location.
Quality product, I had one on my trans am for 2 years with no problems at all. As long as you dont hold the button for more than 6 sec you should have no troubles.
This reminds me of the Kriessiegg (sp?) F1 exhausts that the company makes for high end cars. The sound from them is insane but so is the price...
yah those Kriessiegg's are like $5-7k

they sound sweet

but for every day, you'd want to shoot yourself, unless you're really really into that sort of thing

id only want an exhaust that loud if i had straight pipes for a track only car, the cutout seemed like a good idea for a bit of time, but from reading more about it, it seems that the motors break easily, some people say that its because of operating them under WOT, but i dont know much about them

some of the evo guys use them

i ended up settling for a used borla exhaust, should do the trick for me

but in the end its obviously your car

if someone does do this post it up for sure

I was going to get one for my brother's Jetta by the same company, but heard the the flap can get stuck, or break off from the guys over at VWvortex.
This is pretty popular on american muscle cars...

There would be no loss in backpressure unless it was placed before the cats. Resonators and most aftermarket mufflers since they are straight through produce little backpressure.
the ones found at clugp store are ****, they get stuck.....had one on my prix.....manual ones are good though

What happens when the switch is held down for more than 6 sec? Does the motor burn out, or the flap gets stuck?

Has anyone installed this on a 323CI? I wonder how it sounds. The M3s sound nice with QTP.
