Strange, I was replying to a post here
and asking this question and it got moved to a new thread.


Insight on this would be good. From a lot of researching about the EWS, I’ve read it’s
possible to swap dme + ews and put the original key by the ews antenna on the ignition and it will be read by ews. This would negate the need for the original ignition tumbler.

This would mean you can gut the Ews matched key and transfer it to the existing key that matches the tumbler, or program a new one. If this works, then what really matters is the chip thats programmed to the ews and the cut key is just a mechanical barrier.

I haven’t purchased the equipment to program keys yet, I’m down to a single key and buying from BMW is costly, but verifying before hand would be good to know.
