Plastic Interior Trim Stripping/repainting.

Hi peeps!

Just curious, has anyone touched up/Removed paint from their dash pieces i.e. the plastic painted pieces under the arms rests on the doors, the pieces of painted trim between the dash and the glovebox/head unit and the gearstick surround.

I'm looking to sprouse up those pieces in my car as they have some scratches and are looking well aged.

Would you recommend stripping the old paint off first, if so what would I use to do that on plastic pieces, or would you prime/Paint over the top. (Obviously may not 100% match the colour and I will notice and it will bother me) I'm leaning towards stripping it all and going full hog.
Suggestions??

Cheers,

Adam

Hey Adam, I blacked out the cheap looking silver pieces in mine and the results were really pleasing. I just sanded it down to key it for painting (like you would with any paint prep job).

The hardest part was splitting the trim, it was a real bitch and required 3 hands.

I've attached shots from the front arm rests, will do rears on a subsequent post

I have the grey leather interior with the grey door cards. I was thinking of keeping the silver but just re doing it in a more modern metalic silver as I think it completes the grey nicely. What's your opinions?
Thanks for the info on the grit of the paper used. I'm always worried when sanding plastics as with incorrect grit it can become quite "feathey" if you know what I mean. Small stuck bunched up strands of plastic.

Obviously I am a fan of the paint, but I think to get a better metal effect you'd want to do a wrap... Also quite easy, much easier than paint tbh

I did quite a controversial wrap on my dash plastics, 80s style black woodgrain. It wasn't even proper vinyl wrap and I managed a good job with just a hairdryer and some patience

Bring on the hate, haha
