This exact question comes up once a month. By far the easiest and cheapest way is to source a known good 3.0L engine from a E39/E46. Swap it in with all of the peripherals and you're good to go.
You can reflash your DME from 2.5>3.0L

What Don said.

By the time you do what it takes to make more power, you'll spend far more than a 3.0 swap.

BTW, any time you start buying pistons and cams, you're WAY past a cheap build.

If maintenance is up to spec, the 325i is fairly quick. And a joy on the road. Vacuum leaks, plugs, O2 sensors, MAF, disa, vanos seals, fuel pump, pressure regulator, and injector clean are all things worthwhile to check. Enjoy!
