I don't have a ski pass, but the metal plate can't be punched out (its already perforated) and you can take the stock 6 x9 subs out to let more in.

I have had no bass problems so far with my 12" IDMAX in the trunk.

Do what I (and some others) did... remove the rear speakers! :D

This way you get more bass into the cabin (BMW's trunks are very well sealed!) and save the money that you would have spent on the rear fill-in speakers and put it into better front stage speakers. Also, you save money on the size of the amp and subwoofer because you don't need as much sound dB to get the bass into the cabin.

Honestly, I haven't noticed any difference in sound quantity/quality with the ski pass removed. I have my sub mounted on the driver side of the trunk.
Where on the driver side? Is it aimed to the end of the trunk or forward to the cabin? Have you tried placing it snugged to your ski pass hole?

I have a friend that used to work in a custom stereo shop. He says that the best thing to do is to take out the rear speakers. Then you can get a vaccuum to push the noise from your subs out those speakers. That's what I'm going to do once I get the scrills.

Ok, I had this bright idea while I was laying on the beach in Bahamas yesterday...with my system I dont have HK so I had two rear speakers on the deck lid...how about drill a 6" around hole in the center of the lid between the two speakers then buy a speaker cover that matches the other 2? think that will work???

I'm debating doing something similar with my install. Currently I've got a single JL12W6v2 facing the trunk, but don't feel enough of the base get's into the cabin. I've removed the rear speakers and opened up the ski hatch, but it still isn't enough for me.
I'm thinking of mounting the sub so it fires directly at the deck but cutting a hole so it actuially fires directly into the cabin of the car.
Has anyone cut a large hole in the metal rear deck/shelf? and if so does it need additional structural support (i.e. bracing) as the deck is part of the structure of the car?

sounds like what you wanna do is how the JL stealth boxes are setup try a search on that...i dont wanna take out my rear speakers just because I think I will lose a lot of sound when I can just add more by putting one more hole in

I had a sub with no ski pass

I don't have the armrest in the back of my car either. I got a lot of bass from running one Kicker L7 and a pheonix gold ti500. I was going to have it mounted underneath my back deck but the guy wanted 400 bucks to do it and he said that he couldn't find an exact match on the mesh to make a new grill for the speaker. So I just said forget it.
