On my 2003 330i, when I put the car in reverse the mirror will tilt like it is supposed to to the full tilt position. and other times it goes half way and other times it just moves maybe 1/2 inch to an 1 inch. The adjusting button is in the left position and not in the right. Sometimes I put the car back in drive and then in reverse and repeat this process until it tilts to its correct position. any thoughts on what may be causing this issue or how to fix/replace this feature. My passenger mirror had issues with heating. Sometimes it worked, others it didn't.
I took mirror out completely when painting the car and noticed one wire was crack naked.
Checked WDS (wiring diagram) and sure enough that was mirror heating wire.

Keep in mind it's kinda pain in the ass to remove mirror so consider this as your last option.
