Hello all,

My SES light came on yesterday and got the codes read today, "P1346 Misfire during start cylinder 3". The engine runs fine and seems to have no problems or rough idle. I removed spark plug #3 and seems to be okay, however when doing this i noticed small amounts of oil on my valve cover near cylinders 4-6. Do you guys think that an old valve cover gasket could cause oil to seep into the spark plugs and contribute to this code? Or is it probably just a bad coil/spark plug? Also, how long will it take for the SES light to turn off if the engine doesn't misfire again?

it has 120k and is 2001 325ci

your help is much appreciated

See the link in my signature below - Solve your misfires, lean codes, rough idle

Before you change out any expensive, hard parts, sort the rubber and vacuum leaks first.

Could be something other than vacuum leak, but these do cause strange problems and at times may only cause misfire on 1 or 2 cylinders.

You could swap the coils as well.
