there are two different parts for #4, 11157532629 and 11157532649 , after researching 11157532629 is titled Crankcase Breather Hose, while 11157532649 is titled as a Crankcase Vent Hose. Couldn't find the spec difference, but look very similar when part searching. Any idea which is was? Thanks
The difference between the two part numbers you mention is that one of them (11157532629) is specifically for engines that have the "cold climate version", which apparently consists of a number of alterations offered or added-on to engines of cars sold in relatively cold climates. For me, being in Southern California, I have the standard engine setup with no cold climate alterations, so my hose part number is 11157532649.
Since I think you are located on Long Island, you might indeed have the cold climate version. If you don't know which you have, you might be able to tell by seeing how thick the insulation is on your broken hose. If it is very thick, then you probably have the cold climate version. You can compare your part to the images found at realoem at this URL: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=AM33-USA-03-2000-E46-BMW-323i&diagId=11_2194
Just click on the little camera image next to the price of each part number and you will see that the cold climate part is a much thicker hose (or hose insulation).
Happy to hear the post helped you and continues to help others as well.
