P0444 Evap. Purge Control Valve Circuit Open

Hope someone can help. So I keep getting a p0444 code, and after investigation with a scanner, I find that my short term fuel trim value on bank 1 is around +17% and Bank 2 is around 3%. I have noticed the error is apparent after filling up, as the values go back to normal a day after filling up. Now I have removed the hose work to check if the valve is producing vacuum, but nothing at all. I have checked for air leaks but all good. I have access to a multimeter, is there any voltage check I can do on the valve itself? Also any other ideas?

Notice the description says “circuit open”? This is a common fault code triggered by the DME when it sees the voltage drop across the evap purge valve being too high. It can be dirty/oxidized electrical contacts at the valve or DME, an aged valve that needs replacing, an aftermarket valve whose coil resistance is out of spec, etc.

The code is pretty clear that the unit has failed
No, the code does not tell you the valve has failed. In fact, no codes tell you that. I have battled P0444 enough times to track down the various causes. About half of them are a valve with resistance above the tight tolerance the DME expects, so a genuine BMW replacement valve solves it. The rest are bad connections or aftermarket junk valves.

It is quite simple to test the valve with a multimeter, 12v wall wart, and a vacuum pump with gauge.
