I see allot of people on the forums with supercharged 330s but when I look at prices for parts and labour it seems to be around 5/6k and with the price of the car included your talking m3 money so am I missing something here or have so many people lost there minds? It would also be cool to hear from people who have a sc as to what they think or the results [emoji2]

OK, buy an E46 M3 then.

Real world E46 M3 power is roughly ~275 WHP & ~235 WTQ on the industry standard Dynojet CF=SAE.

A 330Ci/i with a ESS or VF centrifugal S/C makes virtually the same numbers, those two S/C kits can be bought in the US for roughly ~$4200 dollars.

There's more to the m than just the power and it is my plan I was mainly asking because I know most people with a 330 would lean towards the m and thought there had to be a reason why there are so many people who sc

Main reason for someone to SC their non-m, is IF they have already owned their card for some time all maintenance is up to date and the car is awesome working condition, then it only costs 5k to get it to M3 power and have a reliable car.

If you are buying an non-m and not knowing the true history of the car, all you can do is hope everything is good. So the purchase of the car 5-8k + another 5k, nets about 13k. Now i wouldnt buy an M3 thats costs 13k, god knows what is wrong with it.

FWIW i would only look at well sorted M3, and those are worth 25k+. You can SC a non-m for less than that.

I think m3s aren't as expensive for us in the uk and I'm guessing the price difference between the 2 is larger in the states. I'm guessing that's where your from as you have a zhp? (We don't get them over here [emoji24])

And my car has been running far better since it went into limp mode Saturday night and was turned off and on again, the power doesn't seem to drop off after 4k anymore I'm thinking it could be the cam position sensor but I'm going to see what code was thrown on Saturday [emoji106]

Maybe there are people with expensive hobbies? Honestly, at this point, I have my 323ci -> M54b30 project, but I got a Volvo XC90 for free (from a guy I barely know at work...)

I could probably sell both the 323 and the volvo and come up with pert near the exact amount it would require to just buy a 330 with cash.

But I'd rather take a car apart and put it back together than do that or sit and play video games.

That's just me, though.

I guess it'll be a super sleeper?

back in the day the SC was the way to go compared to an M3 cost. but nowadays the M3 is the way to go over a "new" SC install.
often people still buy used SC and install them, thus making the overall cost less.

this coming from a guy who had a SC on his car and then sold the kit and parted some of the car's "goodies" and paid cash for my M3. for me the hassle of the SC and the smog check (which is something I must get in my state) wasn't worth having a car that has so much more than an engine. parts readily available and resale value to boot.

i do know that some in the UK prefer to SC because of the taxes an M3 runs compared to a SC non-M.
and as mentioned, there are others that want 4 doors.

Of course I guess the price difference used to be huge and I'm thinking allot of the sc 330s might be the ones still around from back then, makes allot of sense.

I have come across a company here in the uk which charge 5k for a turbo install which includes reworking the engine cylinder heads and new valves and all sorts to make sure the reliability is there. Also includes clutch and flywheel dyno runs etc.. oh and they quote 400+ bhp so I'm very tempted to go down this route and then spend some time sorting out the suspension or would you still say go m3?

If you aren't set on having a sedan, just get an M3 rather than supercharge the 330ci. Here's why. If you supercharge a 330ci then you're about about the same power levels as an NA M3. But with the NA M3 you can always supercharge THAT and get even more power. And a supercharger kit + 330ci is about the same as you would spend on an M3.

In my case, I love having a sedan rather than a coupe, so in my case the debate is more about supercharging or S54 swap. I probably should have done the S54 swap because it gives me more headroom power-wise in the future, but, I am not at all dissatisfied with my ESS TS2 kit. In fact, I love it. It's a freakin' blast to drive.

Guys, what would be your advice about installing an ESS supercharger in an automatic 330i with almost 200,000 miles? Will the transmission hold up?

anyone here has installed a supercharger to an automatic car?
