This applies to earlier e46 models. eg. 99-00 with OBCI.

1. Locate the 20-PIN DLC Connector. It is located under the hood, passenger side empty compartment.

It looks like this.

2. Turn the key to position 2. key position before the engine start.

3. For OIL RESET, just ground PIN 7 and PIN 19 for 3 seconds.

4. For ENGINE SERVICE light, ground PIN 7 and PIN 19 for 9 seconds.

Do you need to connect both pin 7 ands 19 at the same time to a ground ?
Just take a paper clip and connect PIN 7 (service) and PIN 19 (ground)

no luck

:dunno: Thx, i have tried this but with no result. A friend of mine did reset the km's (miles) with a reset tool a wile ago, than it came back to 25.000 km. Now at this time it is showing 21.300 km on the service display and i just give the service ( oil and filters ) because i didnt have time for it earlyer and i want to reset it again so it's will show back the 25.000km interval display. I have not acses for the reset tool at this time. My 328Ci is build '99, it was the first of this model E46 Coupe in Belgium.

let me repeat this. turn the car ON position. No engine start...

short pin 7 and pin 19 with a paper clip for 3 secs for oil reset.

Make sure you are shorting pin 7 and pin 19 as described on the picture.

Again, this work on my car OBCI and 20-pin DLC Connector.

I had tried this with a jumper wire several times with no results.

I did this earlier with a paper clip and counted to 9 slowly ( one thousand one, one thousand two...)and it reset. This is an 09/99 build 00' 323. Don't know if it was the timing or what but it does work.

Thanks

You are the man! I was so close to ordering the reset modules. Now if you could just figure out the air bag reset then I would have to worship you  . . .lol. Thanks again!

You took paint off what?
When I did this, I just connected the paper clip between the two pins. One of them (19?) is the reset lead and the other (7?) is the ground lead. I guess if you are having problems getting it to work you could just run (19?) to a ground in the battery compartment. You could use a voltmeter to be sure which one os a ground also.

That sounds like what you did.

You only need to ground pin 7. I think pin 19 *is* connected to ground. I went straight from pin 7 to chassis ground and it worked great.

yes that is correct. pin 19 is ground.
so you can either short pin 7 and pin 19 with a paper clip or ground pin 7.

Check the forums for 2001 and up models. Its even easier for you guys.....I think you hold down the trip odomoter reset button and then turn the key to on, and then push a few more buttons and its reset. I know i have seen it in the forums.

I get the same thing, but I did it through the trip odometer way. How do I get the oil service to show up before start up?
