hey guys, it had been a bad night. I was driving along a twisty road when i went over some oil patch/slippery liquid on the road. Rear rear started to drift, tried to countersteer but i guess i wasnt very good in it. By the way my car only has ASC, not DSC. Anyway, the car did a 180, hit and broke a telephone pole. Lucky all of my passengers didnt suffer any injuries. Thank God for German engineering. And im just about to get my AC style front lip painted and installed.

Do you think the insurance company will total the car? Both axles are probably broken and i think the frame is badly damaged.

wow, that was a fast reply. Well, im in vancouver, so the government has the "monopoly" on the insurance. Cant change it. But yeah, im glad everyone is fine. That's the important thing....I feel so crappy now....

Thank God no one got hurt. It doesn't matter what happened to the car it can and will be replaced.

I think it is totaled....thankfully you are alright....gotta love that German engineering....Was anyone riding in your front passenger seat? That looks like the place that got the most impact...what does it look like from the interior? What airbags went off?

I had a similar accident a few years back. Even though the police report indicated that there was an oil slick on the road (causing the loss of control) I was still considered responsible for the accident.

Chances are better than not that the insurance company will repair and not replace.

Unfortunately, this accident will stay in your record for 10 years. So you'll probably be stuck with the same provider for the next 4-5 years.

Glad to see that none of the passengers were injured.

Yup, im really glad that my passengers were fine. Yup, there was someone sitting in the front passenger seat. He just got a sprain on his right ankle. Besides that, he is fine. Only the airbag at the A-pillar went off. The car really held up. There are a couple of interior pictures in the link. That's all I have now...

Somehow I cant register in my mind that the accident happened. I just hope that the insurance company total the car because it will never be the same again...my poor baby...

Looks like a strong possibility of a totalled car. You should hope for that. The unibody looks severly damaged, and that is not something that can ever be fixed right. You should be swapping the Hamman wheels for the stock ones, and checking them for straigtness. The insurance company is not going to cover aftermarket parts as much as you would like unless you have specified that in the insurance policy.

I would be taking all the stereo, wheels, performance mods and everything else that is non-factory that is salvagable out and checking for its use in the future.

Glad no one was hurt.

Glad to hear that no one was hurt. A seious side impact puts damage everywhere in the unibody so I hope they total the car for you.

From the damage pictures, it appears that the "slippery liquid" was water. Tell us the real story.

It's really lucky that I didnt hit the pole further down the door, or it would have been bad.

Well, i walked over the road and it felt kinda slippery. Maybe it was icy because i was at West Vancouver which is at a higher altitude. Hence, colder weather. It was dark so I couldnt really tell...

Anyway i think i should get some sleep, hopefully i will feel better tomorrow. Once again, thanks for all the advice and consolation.

Sorry man, glad no one was hurt...what kind of bmw do you have?...My old 323i had a similar experiance, i slipped on an oil patch on a highway at like 4 in the morning so not that many cars were there, well i was all the way in the left lane and i spun outta control and almost flipped, but nothing happaned except the rimz and tires had gotten messed up...but once again sorry and glad no one got hurt..

wow, i would say that car definately totalled, i doubt thats repairable. I'm glad to hear nobody was hurt tho. I'm sorry man, its a horrible feeling but nobody was hurt so thats the important thing. Its not like you made a stupid mistake, its just one of those freak things that happen. I would try to push for this to be an "act of god" but i doubt the insurance co will go for that. "Act of god" accidents are things such as a deer jumping out in front of you or something. Its an accident that wasnt foreseeable given the circumstances of your driving. Obviously if your speeding/driving wrecklessly an accident is possible but if you were driving within the parameters of the speed limit/conditions/etc and something freak happens thats what i mean. However, insurance company's will do anything to pay the least amount of money. Sorry to hear bro.

from those pic, its not that damage as you think it is, the roof have not caused a buble and from that angel the shifter have not been removed, so basically they need to cut quarter of the car and replace is, and there is a possible they need to pull A piller straight because from that impact A pillar have caused a stretch and a possible tension around that area.

but hope everything will work out fin!

I had a responsable accident in fall 2002 and my insurance broker told me that insurance companies keeps record for 5 years, not 10. From what we see on those pictures, you will get a new BMW for 2004 my friend. Glad to hear that everybody is okay. :thumbup:

i am not a body work specialist but if the unibody is bent then i'd say it's game time for that car. if both axles broke, the unibody got bent, the entire dash needs to be replaced, plus the countless other things that need to be bent into shape the value of rebuilding is going to be more than the car was worth. and that's how they determine whether a car was totalled.
