Is there a way to get a readout in OBD Fusion for oil temp?

When the app isnt connected to the car I can add the oil temp gauge but when I connect to the e46 I get no readings...

You get no readings because the E46 Non-M (at least) doesn't have an oil temperature sensor.

PASoft reads oil temps, too...

Why there are 2 pressure sensors on the brakes and even one on the air conditioning,
and yet none on oil just baffles me...

Hey, check out this post & thread where the Carly app was used to log oil temp vs cooling temp during warm up period. The interesting result is it takes oil temp a bit longer to reach operating temp than it takes for coolant to reach operating temps.

I finally got everything I need to run Carly on my BMW.

I recorded the ECT temperature, CTS temperature, and the oil temperature while warming up my car in the garage.

The graph above shows that the ECT eventually reaches 97.5C, and that the thermostat only opens once the ECT reaches around 97C.

Below 97C ECT temperature, the thermostat is closed.

Outside temperature is -6F, and in the garage, it is 0F.

Ah yes, that's where I got confused. No oil pressure sensor sucks. Would love to have one for track.

So what triggers the red oil light if there is no oil pressure sensor?

On the realoem diagram, I see that #12 is an oil pressure switch, #13 is oil temp.

(EDIT: Ok, you are right TobyB. There is no actual sensor giving pressure readings, only a switch to turn red oil light on or off.)

I see your edit, I believe red/yellow oil light is just level sensor.

Well, there is an actual oil level sensor in the bottom of oil pan that activates the yellow oil lamp to indicate oil level. The red oil light however is based on pressure only (in all cars as far as I know), and that is activated by the oil pressure switch (#12) on the oil filter housing. So there are two different "sensors" involved here.

Pressure sensor vs switch is splitting hairs a little, but that is what confused me at first when Toby said there was no oil pressure sensor. Turns out he is correct: the car knows if oil pressure is below a specific threshold, but it doesn't know specifically what that pressure is.

Like you said, it would be great to see actual oil pressure on the track. I wonder if it fluctuates as you go through turns.
