Bypass the EWS internal relay will lead to damaged ignition switch contacts soon. The ignition contact should not drive the starter solenoid directly. Should add a relay to the wire.
How does that work? I'm just confused, isn't it the same 12v signal nevertheless? I've got the same setup on my e39 and it's just simple, straight signal to the starter.

There is a relay on the EWS board to reduce the current load on the ignition sw contact. You know the function of the relay is to reduce the control input current, which is the ignition sw contacts in this case. I would just add a generic relay near the EWS for this purpose. A relay should have 12v pin, input pin to EWS pin2, and output to EWS pin1 to the starter.
