Started as a slick top 99 E46 328i sports package. Would run, but not drive because of what I thought was a bad clutch TOB. We found the damage to be more extensive.

Engine:

K&N Air Filter
Cat-less exhaust/muffler (custom)
Megan Engine/trans mounts
Shark Injector
Beisan VANOS

First job, right off the bat I have no clutch. Bad vibration in the clutch, and won't disengage. Picked this up for very little, expecting to do a lot of work.

Task:

OEM DMF
OEM Clutch Kit
Guibo
Detent gear pins
Master / Slave
UUC SS Clutch line

The clutch had exploded after over heating from a failed TOB. The flywheel was shot, and the shift linkage had a lot of play. Ended up going in and replacing it all, doing the shift pins, and shift bushings at the same time. Some friends helped, and we knocked it out in a few days. Only setback was the unexpected flywheel, and parts.

Factory sport suspension is long worn out. I know the shocks are shot, but I picked up the springs for cheap, and cant stand factory ride. They lowered the car perfectly, and stiffened things slightly. Also added some Poly RTAB bushings after finding excessive tow rear left.

Task:

Lowering springs
Poly RTAB

I ended up selling the springs when moving up.

VANOS!

Have been having problems with jumpy idle during warm up. The dip is corresponding to a audible click coming from the VANOS intake side.

Task:

Valve cover gasket
Spark Plugs
Beisan VANOS kit
Intake CAM sensor

End result, the idle is smooth as it should be. No more odd clicking, and I can feel the profiles change around 3k rpm now.

Head unit. My car did not come with one... However, no problem because I would have changed it anyway.

Task:

Pioneer MVH Bluetooth head unit
Pioneer 10" Sub

I love this head unit. It is a multi media unit, so it has a shallow back (only about 2"). Soldered the wires building the adapter harness. Sub came from my last car, and works well for its cost. Just enough to fill the car, without shaking cars across the intersection.

Track day!

Don't wreck (or try)

Rain on and off all day, always on for my session haha. Lots of wet driving experience, and it was amazing. I found the back end wants to slip out more aggressively when driving aggressively on wet pavement with traction control on.

Spend the first half of the day learning the track, and my car. Shaved a few seconds off my laps turning it off, and found the back end not to kick out as unexpectedly on me. I come from Miata world, traction control and ABS is not something I'm use to having haha

A little flair, and fixing a drippy antenna. The passenger side trim has been missing in my car, and unable to find the silver for any reasonable price I picked up a wood gr.

Task:

CF Wrap Trim
CF Shark Fin
LED Lights
Leather reconditioning

The LED lights came from Ebay, and work well. I don't like the blue, it is too much. Something softer, slight blue/white was what I had hoped for. They won't fit in the back, but natural light is nice anyway. The Shark fin was just to stop water from coming in. Could just as easily replaced the rubber washer, but this looks okay. The trim turned out well, and will work for the time.

The old cow had become parched, and received some heavy duty leather moisturizer. As directed, apply with hands and smell of candles for weeks! haha. I will admit, it has brought bit back some. Hopefully making it more resistant to further deterioration.

Cluck in the back when shifting is becoming worse. I have checked the sub mounts, and the body looks good. Eventually reinforcement will be welded, but I have to fix this for now.

Task:

Differential bushings

It is a challenge to remove the main dif bushing. All of the tools have just pulled the bushing from the sleeve. I have had to use a chisel to get it out, thankfully a friend had this available.

One the very last nut, going on a sub frame stud, impact gun on and it snapped in half. Fist thing trip the next morning to BimmerMotorWorld to get two new ones (one extra). 4 hours latter, I feel confident in this job now.

Front end is shifty, and still on the OEM solid arms. Shocks are shot, and brake lines are only just holding on

Task:

Front suspension kit
DGR Coilover
Strut tower reinforcement
SS Brake lines

Started with a full front end kit. Lower arms, tie rods, sway links, bushings, the works! Everything took massive force to remove, but went together very well. Tower reinforcement plates, and lateral enforcement with an interesting ebay bar. I am happy with the engineering and quality for price. As always, bimmerworld had a set of SS brake lines to me in less then a week. Very happy with them, and the price.

My wheels would scrub slightly before the new super stiff ride, and I think it would take a lot to do so now. However, its easier to play the safe side with fenders then not.

Task:

Fender rolling

This was my first time rolling fenders on my own. Having spend last summer working in a friend in his shop, I have assisted many times. Borrowed one of his worst rollers (the good ones make him money, haha) I went to work! Took my time, heated everything hotter then my ex's head, and rolled away.

The front went very well, and easy. Maybe 45 min a side, and most of this was heat gun. The back however was much harder as you can imagine. You cant? Just go look at your rear fender lip, haha. Some beer, blood, knuckles and grunts, it rolled out well!

-The factory seal was leaking. I could still reseal and go to factory if I want, but I never play the radio, EVER. Depends how I like its look.

Rear view mirror fix -Free!
-Mirror was falling flat from the day I got it. Never looked into how it comes off, until the other night. Took it apart, and found the metal ring that holds everything tight had come off. Checked the electronics inside at the same time, and finished.

Fell victim to the 330 ebay quality mani that will not fit on my 328i. ProTuningLabs They wanted to charge me a restocking fee for an item that was wrong. I copied the email to the paypal claim, and they refunded me instantly. The only problem was they had refused to give me a return shipping label, and I filed the shipping in the claim. They refunded the first amount to close the claim so I couldn't escalate it to PayPal directly.

I got my front strut reinforcement plates from BimmerWorld, and installed them with a strut tower brace. BimmerWorld is awesome as always, and they just launched their new website!

The front brace came from some ebay seller. They seem to offer different bracing options for a number of cars. From what I can see, I am really happy with how it was made for the price.


I went ahead and lowered the rear another 1/4" as well. I found everything settled perfectly, and was even all around. Should sit with just a 1/2" difference f/r with a full tank, and about 3/4" empty.

I also stiffened the dampeners some more. I'm now 16/30 front and 14/30 rear. 10k front and 9k rear.

New manifold, took it right to the exhaust shop to be made properly lol. $200 total, noticable power gain, and sounds good. I have no idea what the rest of my exhaust is, but I like it. Had the shop fix a broken hanger as well. Good day!

Let me know what you guys think of the ice blue lights inside. They ended up being more blue then I wanted, and although a part of me likes it, another part is meh. I don't really like "tacky look at me" bs, and it feels a little like that.

Supporting all the guys I know well who support me and my car builds. One of my friends is a Megan supplier now as well in his shop.

At one point, I had every light off on the dash. Some are for fun, the others can be fixed easily, working on it.

you've certainly done a lot of solid work.

Some advice: Lose the blue lights, I used to have something similar, back in 2006, then I learned how to properly do it and now have more of a nice white moonlight LED look rather than "Im up in da club" blue LED's. Also, please lose the rear window stickers. please. Not a fan of the corner or tail light tint either, but that doesn't bother me nearly as much as those other two. Other than that, she is coming along nicely!!

Yea, the "In the Club" look is bothering me as well. I really wanted a nice soft white with a blue tint, not screaming BLUE!

The tail lights are darker then I intended.

The blue is on my licence plate as well, I think it makes me stand out to much.

I'm not a big sticker person, but I know the owners well, and want to support my friends. They often help me out when I need it.

Yea look around for something whiter, I guarantee your interior and trunk will look even better. The car is coming along really well though. Kudos!

Thanks for the advice and comments. I have done so much work on this car its unbelievable. I have a full spreadsheet to keep track of it all.

I do have something for you guys to look at. I have coilovers, and oem sway end links. The sway bar looks really close to the tie rods though. I know both will move together some, but do I need to worry about bending a tie rod on the sway bar if I hit a big bump? I would think I will have bigger problems if I hit a bump big enough to make them contact.

Let me know what you think. I keep hearing a clunk sound up front. I cant tell if its the pillowball tophats, or the shock hitting its expansion limit after decompressing.
