I finally found my project car, a 2004 325xi Touring with some engine problems but great body and interior. I plan on swapping in a 1JZ GTE (Toyota twin turbo 2.5L inline 6) to have a really fast wagon. I have dropped the same engine into a previous car (not a BMW), so I'm familiar with the engine. I am going to try to keep the AWD system, as the 1JZ oil pan should clear the quarter shaft. I'll be keeping the original transmission and transfer case, also I am shooting for only around 320-350 HP, so I hope the drivetrain can take the extra power. Currently, I drive an 02 Lexus IS300 SportCross (wagon), which has been a great car over the years, but it does not handle like a 325. I'll start a thread when I get started on the swap. Mark

Is still the year of the "after-thought" all-wheel drive? Or did they have the better system worked out by 2004?

AWD with that setup will surely kick ass. so far ive totalled one differential already .... mine is still running the twins @ 12psi and it is fukenmuven lol. ive had my fair shair of problems but only be cause i bought the car already swapped and pretty much had to do over the whole swap because it wasnt done properly. currently its just pretty much stock with a 1jzgte bellhousing mated to a bmw 250g getrag gearbox, custom driveshaft.but ive upgraded fuel pump to AEM 340lph, HKS Fuel cut defender, big front mount and the a blitz super bov that i unfortunately had to remove becuase it kept blowing off the boost hose. couple goodies will arrive soon. ive made a few video on my youtube channel that may help. my recent video i showed how to get the stock bmw temp guage to work with the stock cluster after the swap because ive realized most if not all of my friends with the same swap all have aftermarket temp guages lol. link : Shrink your URLs and get paid!

Big single is in the near future for me though. but before i do i decided to go zf gearbox, 330i drive shaft and whole back end, upgraded rotors and brakes (front and rear) and a few other nits and bits.
