Hey guys

Was rotating the tires on my car yesterday, so i thought i'd check my subframe out while i was there. I half expected it anyway, given that my car is a 2000 model, but i was hoping the sedan would be less affected or whatnot. Anyway, turns out i have a decent sized crack on my passenger (left) side at the subframe mount. As far as i could see, the driver's side was ok, BUT the fuel filler pipe was in the way, so i couldn't really see all that much, just went by the feel of my fingers.

Anyway, here are some photos. Gonna take it to BMW to see what i can do. Hopefully, given the legal precedent established in the US, it'll be covered. And it should be covered, given that by covering it in America, BMW has virtually admitted the obvious design flaw. That said, has anyone has any experiences with taking their subframe issue to the dealership? If so, was it before or after the US settlement? Also, i'm in melbourne, only ever been to one dealership, but does anyone have any suggestions as to which dealership is easier to work with on this kind of issue? Don't want to be yanked around for something that clearly isn't my fault.

Do you get the car serviced by BMW or an independent, and does the car have aftermarket suspension?

umm, i only just bought the car in February, so hasn't had a service yet. That said, I bought it from a guy in Queensland, and the logbook is up to date with BMW Brisbane servicing. Only work i have had done is to have the FCABs replaced when i got the roadworthy done.

Well take it to your local dealer, depending on where you are in Melbourne.

Tell them of your problem, show them the service books.....

And then ask very nicely when you can pick your car up after they fix it free of charge....

Be very nice and smile.....

That should be about it...

If it dosent work, then ask them to call the BMW service tech to come in and inspect your car because you beleive you have a valid warranty claim againts them.

Then tell me what happend...

Mine has aftermaket wheels and they where fine with it, take it to a dealer and act nice, the will be a bit reluctant but should all come through for you. If you have any problems mention the class action suit in the US and that you know it is a very common problem due to a poor choice in metal around the mounting points.

My car is in getting welded up at the moment with them footing the bill. I know it is a stressful time, just relax, any problems come back here as there is a few people that have had the same problem and got them to pay.
