You probably could fit an n54 intake on it if the bolt patterns are the same. Are they? I'm going to have to go look now being I have cars with each of those motors.

The big issue is that the N54 is direct injection so there's no ports on the intake manifold for fuel injectors for the M54. There are some adapter options but they ain't cheap.

 

Yeah, you have to buy a port adapter. There are a few options out there that are for the n54 but will also work with the m54. I don't know if it's worth the hassle for me other than I might like how it looks better than the m50 mod.

 

A few people have managed to plastic-weld injector ports onto an N54 manifold but there isn't good documentation anywhere.

Another option is an aftermarket N54 manifold with port injection. They can be had for pretty cheap but not sure of the potential performance gains on an M54 since they're made for boost + meth injection.

 

When you go from stock intake on the m54 to any mod you lose some low end performance. It's not much when going to the m50 mod. Probably not to different with the others. But without any numbers I'm just guessing.

 

I was thinking about if the N54 manifold was worth it, but spending lots of €€ on the intake, only to spend some more €€ on adapters (as I forgot N54 was direct injection. I kinda stopped following BMW since the E46), so you can spend another €€ on a tune, to gain a few hp...
I think I'm gonna go another route

 

RACEMODE from Poland makes the adapter plates, I am not too confident in the gains they claim. A lot of their stuff seems a little fishy to me. Although I have a customer that has installed/is installing this kit on his MS45.1 330.
