So after a bunch of aborted attempts, a call for help (thanks @tbouchard991!), and thinking things over with some of the input I got here, I think I'm finally happy. My start is a little unorthodox, but the result is on point. Someone had suggested putting a stitch at the seams, but after repeated attempts to get the seams to line up, that would not have even worked. Stitching up to it would still be skewed. So, taking another approach I tired, I started at one of the seams. And since they give you two needles, and two things of thread, I started two and worked in opposite directions. So far, so good. I had stitched the one spoke back together already.

So I gave in and just ordered a new lower trim for the steering wheel today. I was going to refinish the old one, but that takes a lot of time. This way it will be a quick, easy swap. My cost ends up being like $65 plus tax. That's honestly the first $$ I've spent on this steering wheel. The base wheel was free, the wrap was a birthday present, I can spend $70-ish on it!

I did the same. Partly because my finish, even if it turned out better than I would hope, wouldn't be perfect and I would obsess over it with it in my face for the next many years.

My wrap itself is imperfect enough, shabby trim simply wouldn't do.

I installed it today. It feels good in my hands, much better than the stock wheel.

Looks super sharp! I personally prefer the sport wheel to the M wheel. Probably in the minority but that’s ok.
The increased thickness is a huge improvement. Officially on my list of to do’s.

Thanks! I did apply a little wet on that area that was loose and it tightened up. Thanks for the tip!

New Koni rear shock installed, old one on its way back to Koni for warranty evaluation. I played with the front adjustment a little bit and settled back on 1/4 turn from full soft. It was actually bouncier on full soft, so apparently under damped. Ride is smoother and, most of all, quieter, again.

I dove in and looked at the noisy blower motor earlier this week. I accessed it and determined it just feels super rough when spinning it, I'm just going to replace it. I have spare I've heald onto because of this one being noisy. I'll be sure to lube that one before it goes in.

After looking at all the logistics I've decided not to attend Touring Fest, unfortunately. However, as I posted elsewhere, I will be keeping that weekend touring focused. I've set the date, I have just over 2 months to get organized, and I'm finally doing the ZHP swap that weekend.

So I had a 4th person in the car last night, usually it's just me, my wife, and our daughter, and I got some odd clunking sounds from the LR over large bumps. It almost sounded spring related, as it a had a kind of "sproing" quality to it. Only did it 3 or 4 times, but it's a sound I've never heard before in over 6 years and almost 80k miles.

I love seeing the “tech parking” at dealerships. It’s usually pretty easy to spot.

Good looking trio.
Actually the other 2 belong to people in sales. The E36 owner also has an F80 M3 (but not manual) and the E39 owner has an F15 X5 50i and an E89 Z4 35i S drive.

Between service and parts we have a pretty stout 4x4 section, as well.

Eek! Didn’t mean to assume. That’s a heck of an employee car lineup either way.

I was at my local VW / Volvo dealer a few times last year and the techs there had some sweet cars, older Volvos in particular. Oh and the “owner’s boyfriend” had a GT2RS and a GT3RS 😳 I asked a salesperson if that was the owner, as he pulled in one day, and he kind of hesitated as he said, uhhh, it’s the owners boyfriend. Not totally sure what that was all about but seeing those in person was wild.

No worries, really! It says something about both the individual and the vehicle seeing as those are the cars they prefer to drive. ;) The E39 M5 showed up for service with a blown clutch and the owner didn't want to fix it. The "Client Advisor" bought it for $5k!! 😲
