Hi all

I have found a great thread on this site detailing how to perform a DIY retrofit of the MFL steering wheel / Cruise Control.

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=544160

My local independant garage are actually doing the work for me using the official BMW retrofit kit.

We have a problem!

We have the install instructions from BMW which are the same as the Retrofit intructions in PDF format here: http://www.box.net/shared/0sb5rm740s

On the front of this BMW doucment it states "All Convertible from start of series (mine is a 2000 E46 323CI Cabriolet) but the document lists all engine types except mine (mine is an M52 I am told).
On page EN/8 of the document is the instructions for the pin assignment from the wiring harness to the control module under the bonnet but the pin used differs for different engine types, and the M52 is not mentioned.

Had anybody had any experience of this who could possibly assist, or does anybody have an M52 engine and the multi function steering wheel who could help?

Many thanks

Anybody?

It's an M52 engine I believe and is the only one not listed in the MFL / GRA Retrofit instruction document

You have a production date for your car?

I've read a long time ago at another site that the retrofit will not work on USA cars. Does work on Euro and Asia spec, but still depends on the production date. Meaning it's for a drive-by-wired car.

Anyhow I used pin 27 and BINGO, it works a treat, despite being told by BMW that this wouldnt work with this engine!

If anybody has this problem, just follow instuctions as if the engine is the M54 and use pin27 - works a treat.

FYI - I found a good "how to" with pictures from somebody on this form. He runs wires behind the light controls for illumination but I cant figure out why this is needed. I just follwed the BMW instuctions and it works perfect, and illuminates.
