Currently in the middle a full rebuild. Wanted to continue to document some things I haven't seen on here.

The weight of the bare M54 block is a whole 58lbs!
The weight of the bare M54 head is 38lbs.

Still shocked at how little the block actually weighs. When I dropped it off at the machine shop one of the workers compared the lightness of it to picking up a beer can😂

As a reference from the ETK:

3.0L M54 block with pistons: 35.0 Kg
3.0L Crankshaft with bearing shells: 22.9 Kg

2.3L M54 block with pistons: 31.92 Kg
2.3L Crankshaft with bearing shells: 22.8 KG

These are "Shipping weights" so it is inclusive of the packaging as sent from Germany.

The 2.3L engine has a Nodular Iron crankshaft and is not Forged.

IIRC (?) the 2.0, 2.3 & 2.5 are Nodular Iron and the 2.8 & 3.0 are forged....

106 lbs is rather light for a block and head that are bare.

I think a stock intake manifold off a Ford FE engine weighs 100 lbs alone. You need an engine crane to remove it from the vehicle.

If one were strong enough you could practically throw around a bare M54 block like a football or something. I knew It was light when I found out I could lift one end by myself.

The engine contains a considerable amount of weight in the vehicle second to the transmission. You can gut interior parts all day but you can't easily get the weight out of an engine or transmission.

Solid point. I'm now curious as to how much a bare M52 iron block weighs considering it is comparable (if not identical) in size
