2005 330ci with 178k on the clock. History unknown, but the car is in good shape. I bought it back in December, upgraded all of the suspension, bushings, etc.
After my last track event at Roebling Road, I was hearing a ticking noise at part throttle on the way home.
I wasn’t sure what it was, so I used a shotgun approach with the easiest things first. I replace the DISA, lifters, timing chains, ramps, tensioners, etc.
Everybody said it couldn’t be bearings when I did all the work, so I didn’t do it.
From picture number one, you can see I should’ve done it when I had everything pulled apart a couple months ago.
The bearing spun and is worn down to copper. The connecting rod looks OK, as does the crank. I’m really surprised.
I removed the cap on number six and it was worn, but looked OK.
Unfortunately, I don’t have my bearings yet. I’ll get them by next weekend and install them. GSR M52TU / M54 upgraded oil pump is on order and will be installed at the same time.
Knock on wood, it’s fixes the problem… at least for a while.
More to come.
