Hey guys not sure whether or not to get the oem x-drilled rotors. Was wondering if anyone has them or has any comments on them. Are they worth it performance wise or are they really just for show?

rotors

The Cross drilled rotors are really just for show... there is almost no reason to change unless you are doing serious track time.
the stock rotors are very good and some people even stay with them and do Autocross with no problem.

You're right that x-drilled rotors are for show, but for serious tracking that's even more of a reason NOT to get x-drilled rotors.

yeah, unless it comes from the factory like that (porsche brakes), don't get em unless you want em for show only.

Clarification: Porsche rotors are the only rotors that are "cast perforated" - the holes are cast in, not actually drilled. This helps them resist the "stress riser" effect of drilling, making them less likely to crack.

They still crack.

From above... Porsche rotors are the only rotors that are "cast perforated".

Regarding the comparison of the entire kit to a Brembo kit, it really depends which Brembo. For example, Brembo makes the Gran Turismo line which you can buy as a kit. But then Brembo also makes the Porsche calipers that are in the Movit kits. Obviously there is a big difference between these!

The closest direct comparison would be to the bigger Porsche calipers (993TT, 996TT). In this regard, there are a number of features where the UBBK does things a little differently. A comparison between our "technical details" page and the available Brembo information should be quite enlightening.

There are other factors which skew the comparison... things such as rotor size (the UBBK uses larger rotors) and total brake torque numbers (the UBBK generates 20% more than the 993TT and 30% more than the 996).

This pic was posted in another thread here on E46Fanatics:

Field testing so far has yielded very favorable comments toward the UBBK by qualified racers who have experience with various other setups.

The UBBK is being fitted to cars running in this year's OTC and OneLap events.

As far as making "X is better than Y" statements, we should start seeing some "field reports" posted in the near future.

Our 355mm (14") kit will definitely fit the E46 M3 with stock rims. We will have pics posted of that setup very soon.

Brembo makes replacement x-drilled rotors for OEM rotors on the E46 M3 now. Atleast that's what I found out from Renn-sport. They go for roughly the same price as the OEM EURO FLOATING ones. $750

Sorry bout that!

I did not mean to say that XDrilled should be used on the track... I use Slotted... even Cryo's will crack, eventually...
I only meant to convey that there is NO reason to ditch the stock set-up UNLESS you are going to heavily track the car, In that case UUC, Brembo, AP or even Stoptech would be good choice.

Rob, how many people do you have on the list for a mass production of the STAINLESS STEEL E-brakes? I'm still awaiting! =)
