Hello,
I don't so Spec racing but since SE46 allows for an LSD I thought I would ask, do you guys think it's worth it for the track on our non-m's?
I'm considering picking up an LSD due to annoyances of not having one on the street (I get one wheel peel and can't u-turn effectively). However on the track I've actually never had issues with one wheel peel, because I only have around 230hp and the speeds are much higher.
Does an LSD lower your times even if you aren't experiencing off-apex one wheel peel?

Yes. An LSD is a fantastic upgrade with great results as long as you trust the throttle.

Won’t help those who firmly believe in late apexes.

Hmm, interesting... I guess I assumed an open diff is best if you aren't peeling out one tire. I don't oversteer yet so maybe that's what I'm missing. Even with square tires my car understeers almost solely.

was the best mod I ever did to my 330ci. I notice it mostly during spirited driving in the city/backroads. it helps out in the snow too. I just got the mfactory one. I totally think it was worth it. Feels like a different car when traction control is not going off all the time.

My 330ci rarely ever had understeer issues with the LSD.

Understeer and oversteer all kinda happen depending on how you're entering a corner. If you're understeering in the E46 you might be entering corners a bit too hot or you need to mess with tire pressures more. That probably isn't all of it either... these are pretty well balanced cars. What kind of track stuff are you doing?

My first time attack event I desperately felt the need for an LSD. Far more so than any of the times I had run open lapping at the same track. As you adjust your driving style and start throttling through the corners more you'll probably notice the inside tire peeling pretty quickly. I'm still a comparative rookie to many of these guys though.

It's a track day, running Intermediate with SCCA. Putnam Park in Indiana. I usually enter with no tire squeal and just add a little throttle until I start to hear the front tires, and then floor it off the apex. Not exactly the fastest approach, but again my car never oversteers. Square 245's, F: 7.5k, R:10k springs, 2.2 camber front, 1.9 rear. I'll be adding more front camber next time, maybe the car will balance out.

Once I floor it off an apex, I've only once had inside wheel peel. I don't have aftermarket bars, so this helps with putting power down. I am usually one of the faster cars in my run group, so I'm definitely pushing the car. I had to point by one driver last time, only after getting into fuel starve issues.

Maybe I should get a helical, being that this car isn't a full track car. Helicals don't add understeer like clutch type do, and still give you some lock. They also don't need serviced like clutch type do. I'm looking at MFactory diffs.

The slowest corner at the track is around 45 mph, all others are 55-75, so I'm usually in third. Even when I go to second at 45 I don't peel tire when I hammer off the apex.
I'm hoping that with more front camber the car would have some oversteer to it, and might benefit from an LSD. as it sits now though, I don't think it would. I was hoping someone could convince me I would need it once I had some oversteer haha
