I have been having issues with intermittent battery drain with my 2004 E46 for about two years, and have not been able to solve it. Today, while checking under the hood for leaks, etc, I noticed that the jump start terminal nut is extremely hot, to the point that if I dropped water on it, the water boiled almost instantly! This happened after the car had been idling for about 15 minutes. The battery was charging, at the rear (at the battery) my voltmeter read 13.4 volts. At the wire that runs from the alternator to the jump start terminal the reading was 13.9 volts, so there is some sort of voltage drop between the jump start terminal and the battery. Could the jump start terminal need replacing? Has anyone seen this before?
