i know the car has the black little pads on each side of the car to raise it, but would like to know when u jack it up can u place the jack stands (for the front of the car) on this rail/beam about a foot inside from the pads on the side. it looks like it is right next to the floorpan. it is like a long beam that runs almost close to the rear seats.

The best way to put E46's on jack stands is to jack it up from the front and back and slip 4 jackstands under each of the black pads...

I jack the front up by using that little dot that is just behind the dust pad in the front.

The rear, I use the rear differential...

Correct, the diff is mounted with tabs and you could break a tab off the diff, much better to jack from the subframe as shown.

:bump: for the front jack point too
FRONT:
For the 1999-2000 cars, there should be a little black jack point in the front of the car right in the middle. Just look under your car and you'll see it. The whole front end will be lifted.

For 2001-200x cars, I just use the frame to jack up the car and stick the jack stands under one at a time on each side.

Just a note.

I installed my rear spacers Saturday. My jack handle would not fit under the car so I could lift it. I had to use the factory jack to just lift the car enough so I could pump my hydraulic jack.

Thanks for the pics.

PDACPA, lay down a slab of wood 2x8 on the floor drive up on that - that should be enough for the clearance you need - i had the same problem...

Thanks! I had thought of doing that, but had no wood laying around (I think my scraps were tossed in the garage cleaning blitz! Not to mention I was trying to get them on before some people were coming over for a get together. I hate getting Mods and not installing them.....drives me crazy until I get them on and I figured it was an easy install. Which it was, the jacking up was the stumble on this install, though only minor.

Thanks again guys for the pics and tips.

I took a quick pick of my under carriage cause it doesn't look EXACTLY like what was posted. Better safe than sorry.

So the circled bump is the center jack point in the front?

Dooooooooode, you still have the plastic cover on underneath you car, lage star screwdriver I think 5 screws, and it drops down, revealing the true underneath of the car.........I think I read somewhere that the jack point in the front is different after 2001, but who knows, pull off the plastic (start with the rear srews first) take more pics, and we'll see where you jack point is, but I am not feeling too good about your red circle....

Actually, the cover is metal. But I share your skepticism about that jack point. Here is a thread I found on another forum about this same subject.

I will snoop around the undercarriage tomorrow and test out how sturdy the cover is. But from my research, it seems that the oval part is the front, center jack point. I'm still uncertain though.
