Hello All
I have brake fluid leaking all over my drivers floor board and it appears to be coming from the attached photo. You can see it drip out when the clutch is depressed. Is this the clutch master cylinder?

Yes.

Typically a clutch master, or a brake master for that matter, does not leak to the outside, but they can. The common failure mode is that the pedal goes down when you push it but the clutch does not disengage, of the brake pedal slowly sinks to the floor as you hold it down at a traffic light. What happens is that there are O-rings and seals inside between the piston and the body of the respective master cylinder. The O-rings allow fluid to go past instead of being pushed into the system the fluid is connected to. It is rare that a master cylinder will leak to the outside. Slave/wheel cylinders will leak to the outside as a condition of a normal failure. You observe puddles of brake fluid -- or at least wet areas where the fluid is going.

The difficult part of the job is becoming the pretzel that you need to be to fit in the work space. HINT: Do yourself a favor and take the seat out. DO NOT exercise the ignition while the seat is removed else you will trip an airbag (SRS) fault. If you have the BMW Scanner software, then you can reset the SRS fault.

Thanks all. New clutch master installed. First time to do this took about 3 hours. A beer break or two. Attempted to refill using the reverse method. Connected to slave cylinder and pumped in new brake fluid. Guess my oil can couldn't create enough pressure cause I now have air in the system. Clutch engages but a most to the floor. Any suggestions ? Gonna search now. Thanks for all your replies !

Hey everyone. Thanks for your help. I replaced the clutch master cylinder. I bled the system some from the clutch slave cylinder. Slapped in the new clutch master cylinder and filled using the reverse method thru the bleeder valve with a new oil can. Thought I was good but I am not. The clutch engages but is soft and goes to the floor. When I start it up, have to pump the clutch couple time to make it engage. Gonna bleed the system tomorrow via 2 person method I read. Any other suggestions ?

Thanks
