When restoring the (black) interior panels of a 325CI (ash tray, sunglasses holder and cupholder) do you have to wetsand with fine grit sandpaper or can you do it dry?

Im going to be using 1000-grit sandpaper and flatblack enamel spray paint for all the pieces. Its my first time taking these pieces apart so hopefully this goes well. It will look alot cleaner because i just installed the brushed aluminum interior inserts from an M3 last week.

also I'm adding to your Q.

any need for an "acid-etch primer" before laying down the black satin paint? (perhaps this may even forgo the need to do any sanding?).........I am very familiar with using acid-etch primers on old 1960's Ford classics,..inside & out... ...but not new cars & their plastic stuff...
