Integrated Oil Temp Gauge

Not true on the non-Ms. They have a thermistor in the oil filter housing for oil temp.
But ... aren't all the temp sensors simply thermistors? Like the ambient air temp sensor; if I remember correctly resistance goes down as temp increases from which the DME extrapolates temperture.

I can read oil temp on INPA, but I wouldn't want to have to plug my laptop in every time I want to do so. At least with this you control it with the BC button to scroll through oil & coolant temp, battery voltage, and vehicle speed. For me, having a live reading of oil temp is important, both for warm-up as well as on the track to ensure I'm not overheating the oil
That's pretty convenient to have. Do you know if that module would work on a car without the nav screen and just the regular obc display on the instrument cluster?

Unfortunately it seems that if you have an aftermarket headunit, it won't work, only with factory radio or nav. It does work that way for some of the other models such as E38 where the OBC has a section dedicated to text, but not with the E46.
I have the factory radio only, no nav screen, and the OBC button on the turn signal stalk which toggles between mpg, average mph, ambient temperature, and miles remaining on the fuel tank. OBC info is displayed on the instrument cluster where the time normally appears.

Then if you do want this module, you're in luck! This pic is from their website, showing how the displays look. Nav on top, factory radio on bottom. Note that having to route the wire to the DME through the firewall is a bit of a PITA - much easier if you car is pre-wired with the oil level sensor signal at the IKE X11175 (26-pin connector).
Nice, thanks. Good to know. Without forced induction its not exactly a necessity but it is tempting.
