Integrated Oil Temp Gauge

Carrying this over from ZHP Mafia in case people are interested. I’ve always wanted an oil temp gauge, but wanted to retain a 100% stock look for my car. The stock oil level sensor is actually a oil temp sensor in the pan, and measures oil level based off heat rejection rate to surrounding oil:
Not true on the non-Ms. They have a thermistor in the oil filter housing for oil temp.

From my understanding, they have both - the stock temp sensor in the OFH, and the level sensor (which is actually another temp sensor). To be honest, I'm not quite sure why they have both - but this module is spliced into pin 50 of the X60003 connector on the DME, which according to TIS is for oil level sensor signal.

Do you know if oil temp on the M3s are pulled from another temp sensor, or from the level sensor similar to what this module does?
They have both sensors, but on the non-M the level sensor isn't used to determine temperature. The code simply isn't there in the DME.

M3's is derived from the oil level sensor, there's no dedicated temperature sensor.
