What would cause high pressure on the low side? This is after evaporator, compressor, expansion valve, accumulator, and condenser replacement, basically everything. Air is cool, but not cold, and won't keep you from sweating in this 90+ degree weather. I replaced everything, and then had the shop evacuate the system, recharge, add oil to compressor and perform leak test. I know a bad compressor could cause this, but is brand new. I replaced everything, so there should be no blockage anywhere, either. Thanks!

My AC couldn't keep up w/ the 90+ degree weather for a while either; I figured it was just a week AC in the E46s. HOWEVER, I recoded my IHKA with the euro coding, and it blows significantly cooler. I'm not sure why this would be, but I'm not complaining lol.

Same here, cold but not ice cold. The thermometer measured below 50F coming out of the central vents. So it's either too hot outside (between 90F and 100F) or my windows need to get tinted.

Does tint make a difference?

Count me among the lucky. I set everything up, verified the compressor was on and read 27 psi. After half a can the needle kept going back to 27. I turned off the AC, waited a few then turned it on again and hooked up the gauge to read 35. I'd say those gauges are cheap at best. Luckily those systems don't recharge quickly.

I'm sure tint makes a difference, but I don't have any. There aren't many that can (or are willing to) do it, but try having your cars Vehicle Order (VO/FA) changed so that your car identifies itself as a euro model, and then have the IHKA recoded. Made a huge difference for me. One of these days I'll compare the files so that I can substantiate the differences.

edit: I just compared the defaults between the two regions, and there's only one line that's different: "umluft_memory". Doesn't seem like that it'd be something that changes the cooling capacity. I would normally say my experience was placebo, but I had a number of people comment on the increased cooling capacity, and they have no idea about the kinds of things I do w/ coding on my car.

edit 2: The line doesn't have the implied change (my ihka unit maintains the memory of the ventilation settings whether or not the line is set to aktiv/nicht_aktiv). Perhaps that line really does change how the car cools the cabin

I bought some gauges and checked everything myself. Static pressure was 130 on both sides. Dynamic pressure at idle with AC on full blast and in recirculation mode, low = 65, high = 210. At 1500 RPM low = 40 and high = 290. Air is still cool, but not cold. Thoughts?

a/c

even though its no longer A/C time, i wanted to get some advice

for the past 4 yrs, i had problems with the passenger side blowing warm air and the driver's side blowing slightly cool to warm air. i would get the A/C recharged, however after one or two months the A/C would require another recharge.

now, a week after recharging during the hot summer days, I would notice that there is cold air blowing, however the passenger side is not as cold as the driver's side. both sides are never totally ICE COLD.

do I have a leak. do i need a new compressor?

I thought our compressors had a pressure relief valve in case the compressor reach too much pressure?

Making it impossible to ruin the compressor through over charging?

You open both ports to check pressure with Professional gauges.

low side pressure will vary with humidity and outside temp. Anyone who uses those cheap gauges ti charge there system is risking a big bill
agreed

BTW that STUPID STUPID STOP leak stuff ruins our 4000 machines. Because of DIY and that stop leak crap we had to buy a $2000 stop leak detector. Now we test every car, if it has stop leak in it guess what.....

some of the freon in cans is not pure if it not and we test it as contaminated its alot of $$$$$$$$$$ to properly dispose of it

http://www.epa.gov/Ozone/title6/609/technicians/contamin.html

some stuff can be DIY but just give careful though of the risks and rewards.
agreed

Just bought one can for $23.97 from walmart and put it in my car. My A/C is ice cold now. Great DIY....Thanks :)
Good luck with it staying like that. Hope you didn't overcharge the system.

Just got a quote from the indy shop here in Cincinnati. $160 for a complete evac and fill job with dye injected into system. Thoughts?
A bit too high. You can find cheaper.

I was quoted 108 bucks at Pefferle tire in Hamilton today.

They also have a shop in Fairfield, if you're north of Cinci.

If not, you might try Bavarian Motors on Elsinore in downtown Cincinnati or Foreign Exchange in Dayton. I have taken both of my cars to both shops and they do wonderful work.
