Hey everyone!!!

I have a 2002 325ci Convertible. My airbag light came on after I disconnected the battery (should have read the forum and disconnected the airbags first).

Anyways, is there anyone in mid-Michigan that I can meet up with and see if we can reset the light. I suspect that I blew the pyro protection at the battery but maybe its just a sensor reset.

***I WILL BRING YOU A CASE OF YOUR FAVORITE BEER!!!!***

Anyways, thanks guys. You have been a huge help!!!

You may have better luck finding someone local over in the regional section: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=50.

For what it’s worth, a number of stores should be able to read/clear codes for free or even lend you their scanner if you ask nicely.

Ahhhhhh....gotcha!!!

I know a few auto parts stores offer the free code reader but aren't those limited to Check Engine Lights? Is it possible they can clear Diagnostic codes also? I know my standard ODBII cant see them.

Cool, thanks for the tip!!!

bmwscanner/pasoft should do it too. I'd highly recommend picking one up, it's like ~$30 on ebay.

I think you're supposed to disconnect the battery first, then you may disconnect the airbags. You wrote that backwards.

I'm in the Lansing area and can offer PA Soft / BMW Scanner 1.4. It would be a bit of a hike from Grand Blanc... your call. That said, as Eneka suggested, getting PA Soft is worth every penny (and would allow you to fix this now and problems in the future among MANY other coding/tweaks).

Depends on the place I'm sure, but having done it myself, it is possible to clear an air bag light that way. Might give the place a call first if you want to double check.

Big +1 on P.A. Soft's BMW Scanner 1.4.0, especially if you want to be able to handle things yourself in the future. If you decide to go that route, here are two threads on some of the features it gives you access to:

Used to be Xcar360 was the place to buy the unit (takes 2-3 weeks from China), but you should also be able to pick one up on Amazon or eBay here in the US. As mentioned, shouldn't run you any more than $30 (Update: now around $20).

Software is supposed to come on a disk, but more often than not the disk is blank, broken, or missing. Here's a thread where you can download a confirmed working copy of the software: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=977543&page=2#post16324203.

Easiest to install on Windows XP, but Windows 7 only takes a couple extra steps to get up and running. Plenty of guides on that out there, as well.

Well worth the money, IMO.

Thanks for all the great info guys!!! I did hit Xcar360.com and picked up the PA Soft. $30 free shipping. I'm excited to play with it. I know it probably doesnt play well with Win7 64bit but I can get around that. Did anyone have to wire solder pins 7 & 8 together when they got theirs? I find this odd but figured I'd ask now.

Thanks Luke. I am in Lansing quite a bit for Spartan stuff so it wouldn't be too bad for me. If I run into issues, I might hit you up.

THANKS GUYS!!!

With a 2002, you shouldn't need to wire pins 7 and 8 together. I believe this is only for cars with the 20 pin connector under the hood (which I don't think you have). Even with the 20 pin connector, you don't have to wire 7 & 8 together if you plug in at the round port under the hood rather than the OBDii port in the dash.

Do hit me up if you have any issues - we could easily meet up at MSU.

Yep, what Silber said, "No need for a VM". If you need help, PM so I get a notification.

^ No need to run it in a virtual machine; it will run just fine on Windows 7 32 and 64-bit. There are a couple extra steps required, but here are some links that will help:

Believe the first link above was all I used, and everything worked flawlessly. Good luck!
