Most starters can be replaced by accessing the area under the car.... for M3's with SMG, the SMG pump is blocking this area. How does one remove/replace the starter motor?

I'm getting a Bosch Starter from the stealership for $200.00. Installs estimated to be 6 hours... is that correct?

I replaced mine last year; a bmw tech on m3 forum walked me through the process step-by-step. Exhaust system and transmission cross-member have to come off - this will lower the tranny enough so that you can get to the starter mounting bolts from under the car. Intake manifold also has to come off so that you can disconnect the cables from the starter. Let me know if you decide to do this on your own & I'll send you the pics and more detailed directions.
