Hey guys, so the fan on the back of my climate control unit is making an annoying sound and I figured I'd try to clean it out. I've removed the shifter boot and wood trim along with the two bottom screws, but now I don't see any more screws and the thing seems to be help in at the top. Do I need to remove the nav to get this thing out?
Part 2 of this DIY http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1610586 doesn't seem to show anything holding it in, but mine won't come out and I don't want to break it. Am I missing something?
Update:
For anyone else with factory nav, that has to be removed first. Although there were some hints at how to do this, it's not super clear from the posts already out there. Remove the dash trim, then the 4 screws on the top. The bottom is held in by clips which can be undone with a special BMW tool but can also easily be done with a thin knife. Press the CD eject button and then disconnect your battery to prevent it from closing. To help anyone else from randomly jabbing a knife into the bottom of their nav like I had to, I included a pic that hopefully makes it easier to see what you're trying to accomplish (bottom right view of nav unit). Slide the knife in the bottom and you'll be able to press in the side clips. After you get the nav out just push the climate control unit from behind. Two screws are then revealed behind it that hold the bracket at the top should you want to remove that as well.
