Haha in 2002 alone they sold 560 thousand e46s worldwide. In the early and late years they sold something like 10,000 per month, highest years were 2001-2004.

Al told no less then 1.5 million, probably over 2 million maybe even closer to 3 would be my best guesstimate.

A really quick search using YAHOO and the terms BMW E46 sales totals returns a Wiki link to answer the question :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series#E46.2C_Fourth_generation.2C_1998-2006

It has a handy chart:

Code:
Production and sales

year	Total production	US sales

1999	454,000[14]	77,138[15]
2000	509,007[14]	89,681
2001	533,952[14]	103,227[16]
2002	561,249[14]	115,428
2003	528,358[14]	111,944[17]
2004	449,732[14]	106,549[18]
2005	434,342[14]	106,950[19]
2006	508,479[14]	120,180

That's around 4 MILLION...wow - I had no idea there were so many produced.
Looks like about 20% in the U.S., so we had around 800k E46's sent over here.

I wonder if even half are still on the road (or should be on the road) given the way so many average owners treat these cars.

I'm iffy on that 2006 figure. So they sold 120,000 M3s?

I have a feeling that the 2006 number refers to a mix of E90 and E46 models combined. In other words, don't count that.
2006 3 series coupes were all E46s not just the M3.......

If you look at the actual link, it is all three series so some of the 2006 sales/production were E9x 325/330 models.....

The link that the info refers to breaks down the 2006 sales to include these convertables and coupes (should have been E46s)

I know. My previous car was a 2006 325ci :hi: :lmao:

The point I was trying to make was that coupes are a minority and those numbers seemed rather large for just E46s for 2006

I disagree - E28/E30.
 idk about that. i can't think of anything the e30 does better than the e46 other than the fact that it's lighter, has a better turning radius, and is simpler.
3 things out of hundreds that make up the car isn't good to me.
