I know most airline "black boxes" keep info for 30 minutes and then record over. What about our ECU's?:dunno:

Specifically what KIND of information in the ECU do you mean?

Like RPM, if you had your seatbelt on in a collision, what gear the car was in when so and so happened, etc. I hear it all the time when someone said BMW will not cover the defect because they downloaded the ECU and found this and that.

It's probably flashRAM, and will keep until reprogrammed.

The ECU records the maximum rev the engine has seen, and MAY record the amount of time at redline. (It does in the M cars, but may not in the regular ones.)

According to the tech at my dealership only M cars do that..noting in regular cars is recorded..i guess he is right..
